No kidding! Another way to save money is to shut off your home computers when they are not in use. ConEd said if you leave your computer on all of the time, it adds about $10-$15 a month on your bill.
They told me that about 7 months ago. You could probably save more money now because of the increased rates. I know my laptop uses 65w just for the ac adaptor.
I had a little fun with a kill a watt. Here's some numbers:
Laptop: On-100 to 200 watts (depending on what it's doing)100 with the top closed
Standby- 20 watts
2 Tunze 6100 on multicontroller- 38 to 42 watts
Sea swirls- A whopping 1 watt each
2 4 foot T-5 actinics driven on standard T-5 ballast- 113 watts
I'll be messing around with more things as maintenance goes with my system. I'll keep an update.
