conflicting ph ands alk readings

new tank..pinpoint ph monitor (carefully calibrated twice)
monitor shows consistent 8 PH.. both red sea and salifert show about 8.5.
I added ph buffer based on the pinpoint reading which really didnt change.. and then tested with the two kits and found it to be very high. the alk jumpted to 15.5

any thouhgts and how CAN I CORRECT THIS? i have only newly added LR in the tank so far

ph and alk are not the same thing but they are related. I'd leave it alone for now.
