My aquacontroller III can't turn an aqualifter pump back off for use with my ATO. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out why it wasn't working and I figured it was the switch. However when I tested with a light it worked just fine. Basically it will turn the aqualifter on but then I can't even manually turn it back off. Any ideas why that is (maybe not enough draw) or what pump I should use instead?

You need to use outlet #4 or #8. These outlets use a relay. The issue is that these pumps use very little power and any outlet besides 4&8 will not be able to control such small currents effectively.

So I have it connected to outlet #4 but it still seems to be giving me trouble. Any ideas or if need be suggestions on a new pump?

What you want to do is set up the aqualifter on one of these...
The aqualifter does not draw enough amperage for the switch on most controllers to know that they are there. So you need to increase the draw on the outlet.

What skene said. I plugged a night light in with the aqua lifter so there's enough current being pulled. Also doubles as a indicator that my ato is on

I have an Aqualifter running on outlet 8 with no issues(with float switches and breakout box). If you don't have a breakout box then what is telling the apex that the Aqualifter needs to turn on and off? If your using another ato maybe that is the issue? Just a thought
