I have a 600 gal acrylic tank sitting in my yard in past 7 yrs, and never have the time and space to do much with it. I am thinking either get out of the hobby (too busy with a newborn and two boys), or try to make something out of the 600 gal.

If I want to use the 600 gal, I will either wait a few year for a larger house. If I want to make use of it now, I think one of the option is to use a router to cut out a smaller tank. The tank is special in that it got a 400 gal side, and a 200 gal side, separate by a overflow. So if I router off the 400 gal side, I will end up with a 200 gal tank. About 4 ft by 2.5 ft by 2.5 ft. I can DIY it more to make it work.

I wonder if that is a wasteful thing to do, both in term of wasteful in time and material. Any opinion?

I'd vote against cutting the tank. If you really can't use it now due to size, and don't foresee being able to use it anytime soon, why not sell it. You can always get back in the hobby later when space/time permit. Ideally, if the tank is in decent shape, I'd try to store it until you can use it. I'd love a tank of that size. :)

Are you fellow really that against it? I just don't feel like selling it since it is like 500 lb when empty. I guess I wil consider how sellable it is, and decide what to do. Thanx all.
