ok.. first let me say that my tank is still cycling.. so it will be MONTHS before adding livestock.

My husband mentioned today that he would like an anemone and a clown fish.

I wanted a crab or two... but for this tank if need be..I will pass on the crab.. (I also want peppermint shrimp).

can crabs and anemones get along?

Are there certain ones to avoid?

basically.. HELP!!!! lol.. I don't want anything to happen to his anemone once we get it and i don't want to stock anything in a clean up crew which may look at it as a tasty snack!

Thanks!

First of all, most anemones are not the easiest of animals to keep alive long term in our tanks. Good lighting, filtration, water parameters and foods are a must. If anything I'd be more worried about the anemone eating the crab and the shrimp than the other way around. You can purchase a Neopetrolisthes sp. (anemone crab or porcelain crab) that forms a symbiotic relationship with the anemone. It may harass the clownfish though if it doesn't feel like sharing the anemone.
