Not sure if this will be a help to you or not, but we are also cycling currently. And our nitrates are rising (slowly) and our nitrites are still present (very present--damn nearly off the charts present)... so simply because you are seeing nitrates does not mean that there are no longer nitrites.
Cycling is torture, from someone who has cycled a 170g tank over 5 times in the past 9 years I know it sucks. But patience is the best thing and saves you money and headaches in the long run.
Right now I am ready to tear my hair out with the "is it ever going to end" in my mind constantly... instant gratification is a wonderful thing... but in this hobby not often a feasable one. We put the first of our rock in on March the 7th... when did you start?
