Dead snail - after effects?

I had a single Astrea in my refugium. I realized he hadn't moved in over a day, so I removed him.

Obviously dead and smelled like rotten grossness!

Just wondering if any ill effects come about from dead snails sitting around. Does it happen often to you all?

Everything else seems to be fine. This weekend is time for a water change anyway.

It may have caused nitrates from the decay, but nothing to be concerned about. Hermit crabs attack snails for their shells. It probably happened in my tank but I haven't seen it. I've lost plenty of hermit crabs though. If you want to double check, a nitrate test shouldn't hurt

yeah, they sure do stink. i wouldn't worry about it though.

What really smells is when you find a big turbo snail under your stand thats been there a few days.
