I have had this receiver for a few yrs . Now when Im listening to a dvd or anything for that matter it just turns off by itself. Exspecially when its a little on the loud side. I have a feeling somthing is overheating. I guess its not woth repairing. Im looking into a yamaha rxv1800. Anyone have any knowledge of these. Or can get it for a good price .

This problem could be alot of different things. Did you change speakers (different impeadence)
yadayada
And is it shutting off or shutting down (shutting off means tou have to physically turn the power button back on.
Shutting down is losing sound and having it come back on after you turn the volume down.
First course of action would be to make sure you dont have two wires from the same speaker coming in contact with each other.
IMO if you are going to change recievers, and want to stay at the price point of the yamaha, BUY ANOTHER DENON, There about the best reciever made belive it or not.
If you want to spend more i would suggest a B&K or Integra
I have been seriously into HT for 20 years (since the begining of laserdisc)
And denon is really good at what they do
Youll never be happy with a yamaha after owning a denon
If you want to buy used go on Audiogon.com. Like in reefing you can buy used at a huge savings
PM me for info on a couple of units you like if you wish
But it is most likely not worth fixin your current piece

Thanks for the responce, The reciever actually turns off. I checked the wires from the speakers one was loose tightened it still goes out. These are the same speakers from the start.
I liked the reviews on the pani plus 4 hdmi . I mainly use the receiver for home theater .

i use mine for the same thing. home theatre. i had the saem problem a while back and found that the speaker wires just went bad, look into that. good luck with your purchase. i can honestly say that the yamaha 2700 is a real good receiver with 3 hdmi imputs upconverts standard 480 and 720 to 1080. thats real cool. all the dsp you could want, ipod jack, can use up to 10 speakers if wanted. a great buy

I had a bose system. I sold it for a mac. i loved the fact that the remote worked through the walls. i also had the legendary 901s. Being a engineer, I cant seems to enjoy music coming from satellite speakers. give me 2 channels and a sub and im good money. paradigm make dope speakers though. My tank is set up on the Advent 25th Anniversary speakers. Yeah i need a stand!! If you can afford it go with a macintosh amp pre combo. youll be like why the hell was i thinking denon!. though denon is good. i havent heard any of the new denon receivers.

but remember all the other features of a home theatre recieber probe. upconverting video signal is important to me. also dsp is as well. but to have seperate amps is a nice thought if it could compliement all of these things

would look into the cables too..... I like Mac too, but my wallet dont agree. Satelites with sub is the way I go, cant beat the "realism", opted for B&W's & REL for a sweeter sound.

do you have a limiter? but I guess that will not shut down the amp...... in any case, its the perfect excuse to go out & get a new one. B&K's are upgradable so you will never get stuck with "old" technology. good luck!:givebeer:
