My tank has been running for little over 4 months now (lighted for only 1 month) and am now experiencing brown algae/diatom bloom which i know is a normal part of the process.
what i am concerned about is the diatoms in my sump. they are mainly on the silicone that holds the bubble trap in place. i know diatoms use silicon for their exoskeleton or food (cant remember).
I used GE Silicone 1 (100% silicone)
just wondering if: 1. anyone else has used GE silicone and had similar problems
2. if this will pass or if i should be taking action
i have been blowing/brushing any algae off my rocks and glass daily and yesterday during a water change scraped my sump while syphoning debris (mostly diatoms)
