Ive got the same fixture, and have no problems keeping SPS. I have it in a DYI hood about 6 inches off the water and have had really good growth with all my corals,HTH.

I just purchased a 150W Aqualine HQI fixture to suppliment the 96W smartlamp already on my 92 gallon corner tank. Time to turn it from a FOLWER to proper reef. The guy at the LFS insited it was plenty of light, especially considering I already had a Smartlamp. However, everything I read on these boards only mentions 250 or 400W fixtures - why is this? Do I have enough light for clams and SPS corals? I heard the German type fixtues like I bought are brighter than the other type of the same wattage. The tank is so bright, I can't imagine needing more light.
I've been in this hobby for many years keeping marine and freshwater fish. This whole reef lighting thing makes me feel like a total newbie though.
Thanks
Jim

The 150w HQI are extremely bright for the wattage. You have enough light for SPS if they are not too far from the bulbs. How deep is the tank? Clams will do fine with such lighting.

I use the 150s myself and love them. Since you have the smartlamp too, one 150 should be enough.

Just my .02.

Well your .02 cents makes me feel about a million dollars better! The tank is 24" deep, but my sand be is 5" or so.
Thanks for the reply.
