I just added a Yellow Wrasse to my tank. After acclimating it I added it to the tank and went to throw away the bag. When I returned the Wrasse was gone. I searched the tank (28G Nano) Filter Section, Floor, and everywhere else I thought the fish could be but its nowhere. I read that they will bury themselves in the sand when sleeping or frightened. Does anyone know how long they may hide in the sand?

Hours sometimes even days. I would just minimize my presence infront of the tank for a few days untill it is comfortable in its new home.

I saw one in the tank of a member of our local reef club. Thought he was cool but didn't know about the hiding in the sand thing. It drove me crazy last night trying to figure out what happened to him. This afternoon while cleaning the tank I moved a rock near where he was hiding and out he came. It's a neat fish just hope I get to see more of him in the future. Right now he is back under the sand.

Depends on the fish and your LR scape but FWIW IME most wrasses will spend lots of time where you can watch them once established.

I once released a radiant wrasse (Halichores iridis) that immediately buried itself in the sand. It stayed buried for six days before emerging!

He came out yesterday for a few hours but when I handed my cleaner shrimp some food it quickly burried itself again.

Give him a little more time and he'll probably become the most boisterous fish in your tank. I ended up getting rid of my Radiant for that very reason.
