Depends on your system. I shoot for 6.85 to 6.70 going into a effluent cup for a alk of 8.5 to 9. If i were you i would start high like 7.1 and check your alk everyday to see if its rising or falling and adjust till you find the sweet spot. When you find the sweet spot i would suggest aiding a air stone to your effluent cup to raise the PH in your cup. Helps fight the PH drop in your main

Mike X2....once you find that PH value try and maintain it to keep the alk/cal# you want to keep, but that PH value, over time, will have to be lowered as your system grows to keep those alk/cal# because of the demand for it. I keep a PH probe in my effluent cup to know exactly what is going on before anything goes wrong with the alk.cal# in the DT. I also use kalk to not only combat the lower PH of the effluent, but helps with the alk/cal...
