Okay, I have in what my opinion seems to be a sponge growing around my feather duster.

I am wondering if the sponge will suffocate myfeather duster? If so can I move the sponge without it dying or whatever they do.

As for info on the sponge itself i will click on a very helpful link that GREENIGHS was nice enought to supply the other day.

However if anyone would like to volunteer any information on my sponge i will gladly listen to it.

I can't tell if it's a sponge or not from the pic, but sponges are colonial organisms, so you can trim off pieces of it that may interefer with the feather duster. I doubt it will be an issue though.

 Yup, it's a sponge. If the featherduster minds, it might move and build another tube. No biggie.

Are you guys sure its a sponge and not that weird type of algae that resembles a sponge (I know I'm being so specific here, but I can't remember the name)? It is hard to tell from the pic, but to me it looks like there are air bubbles coming out of it on the left hand side of the feather duster. It could be just trapped air bubbles from the skimmer or something but it could also be from photosynthesis, which sponges don't do (iirc).
