cause they don't grow a new shell, they go and steal another animal's shell dead or alive.

yes, i have other shells just not sure i have the variety of sizes.

any recommendations on where to get shells from?

I get mine at a Craft store.. There cheap and you get many types and sizes.. I boil them to make sure there clean and then toss in the tank. Did I say there CHEAP at the craft stores..
