5lbs last me 2 months but i have a heavy load in my tank so i bubble 120 per minute.so i got a 10lbs and last me 5-6months
yes you will hear a leak so try putting soapy water and see if you see bubbles by the reg. if the gasket on the tank is pintched you will leak slowly. Are you using c02 hose??? they crack if not over time

Something for you both is definitely wrong. I run a 5lb tank about 8 months at 85bpm and a 10lb lasts me at least a year.

Do you use plumbers tape when you put the regulator on?

House

This is probably very close to what I run. I'm slightly over 1 bubble per second, and a 10 pound lasted me close to a year. Except for the last time when they found the tank had a slow leak at the neck and didn't have any 10 pound tanks, so gave me a upgrade to a 20 pound. I think I should be good for 18+ months now. :)

btw, it doesn't need to be the same tank. When you first get the tank, just pop on the regulator and you'll see how much PSI is in the first gauge. They usually fill it to about 800-900 depending on temp (its more accurate by weight which is why the tanks are by weight as pressure changes from hot to cold)

Also, make sure you're using a new washer on the regulator each time you refill.

Jim maybe be I have c02 tank size wrong but the one that is about 12'' high last me 2 month tops..My sps tank i need 120+ bpm and with softies tank only 20bpm. And it also depends on size of bubbles can make a diffrence. I know i have no leaks,LOL

I get about a year as well from a 5lb tank.

Jarret - 12" tall tank sounds like a 2.5 lb, most 5lb tanks are around 18".

Also a good idea to keep a CO2 detector near the tank, last thing you want is a tank to empty in the house.
