Do you need to add a buffer to raise the ph of top of water in the reservoir (or for that matter, do you need to add anything else)?

I assume you are using rodi.

Depends on where your parameters are. You could, if reef tank, use kalkwasser to stabilize alkaline, calcium, and ph, all with one inexpensive easy to find additive in your auto top off

True if needed as consumption exists,
I use kalk, but not just to raise ph. Or as a "buffer"

In general, top off water is just that... Top off water. No need for additives. Addig kalk as meat said is a way of combining top off water with dosing in order to simplify how many different tubes and wires you have going everwhere.
