I was wondering if those small red bugs that occasionally bother acroporas can also be introduced to the tank via other sps such as Montipora sp.

The reason I ask is I have been doing a lot of reading about quarentine procedures for new acros to prevent introducing them, but I wonder if this is necessary when adding new sps that are not Acropora species.

I had the bugs before and want to do my best to prevent getting them again.

If it's a non-acropora species that came directly from an infested tank, I'd say there's a chance RABs could hitch a ride. I believe they can live up to 5 days without an acropora to host in.

I did learn from a well-known grower that highly concentrated iodine dips work in killing RABs, flatworms, and the evil zoa and/or montipora eating nudis. I think it was like a 20-25% solution for 15 minutes. It's not an exact science, but I've accidently left a frag in the solution for 1 hr and it was fine.

A three minute iodine dip will kill monti eating nudies.

Karl, have you actually seen iodine dips kill RB's?

Nah, I was told about it after I had already gotten rid of mine. Soon as I get ahold of infested frag, I'll give it a shot.

Do you think a routine iodine dip for new montis is a good idea? Because I want to get some more!

I have never had the monti nudis before, it would be nice if there was one pest out there I could read about yet never have to experience first hand. :)

I dip every monti that come in because the nudis were just horrible to eradicate. You really don't want them, because unlike RAB's, they move fast and actually eat the tissue right off the coral.

A 3 or 4 minute iodine dip seems to kill all the adults, and you need to visually inspect the frag/colony for eggs and manually remove them.
