drilled my first tank

it went rather smoothly (much to my surprise)

got the hole with no cracked tanks on my first shot, and my DIY bulkhead didn't leak.


the problem is noise, the slurping noise is tremendous......

if i built an overflow like this

would it help with the slurping, i am also scarred of corals or a snail getting sucked down the plumbing, that is only3/4" so not very large in diameter

BTW the new tank is 20L with 2x96W PC jbj.
putting in the 29g sump today. have about 25lbs of base rock and 15lbs of live rock. all RO water

i see you dont have a strain on the top of the pvc pipe,to stop some of the slurping sound put a tee on the back of the pipe and cap it off and drill a hole on the top of the cap. the air will suck in from the top not in the tank ps if my camera was working a show you some picture of my tank drill

You have to do what manyfish says and that greatly reduces the amount of slurping you hear. It should take it away almost completely. It's basically an external durso. If you need pics of mine, I can post them for you. And on the inside part try to get a strainer on there like manyfish said.

Please note that the overflow box on the inside of the tank is what greatly reduces the drop noise and the external helps, but won't eliminate the noise in your circumstances.

You can eliminate it on the inside by putting an internal Durso, but then you'd have no surface skimming and bad gas exchange.

What usually works best in these situations (ike nano said) is a strainer and if you angle the elbow a tiny bit (30 degrees) that will also reduce the noise.

Reduced flow helps alot as well.
