Ok i have a question about drilling a 75 how many holes do i need i was going to drill for a one inch bulkhead for the drain and for the return i was going to drill for a 3/4 bulkhead let me know thanks
Thats sounds standard Daisy is correct it all depends on what you are planning on doing. You have many options in just plumbing to incorperate a sump or a close loop system. Also you got to know where you will be drilling and if it is ok to be drilled in that area. I have the drill bit if you need to borrow it
I have a the drill bits one for the 1 inch bulk head and 1 for the 3/4 bulkhead i am going to be keeping acro and other coral under metal halides 2 250's i am building my new stand tommorrow. what is the best way to drill the tank? Galantra how are you corals and the claim?
Ray, They are all doing great I think i need some more frags:biggrin:
back on the drilling are you planning on using an overflow box or just plumb a strainer? Normally i would suggest drilling the upper corner not too low and not too high so just it case the water level will just take couple of gallons if power is out. How big of a sump are you using? and also what kind of return pump?
Do you really need to drill? Why not use overflow boxes that's what they are made for, just a thought. And remember that some tanks has tempered bottoms.
i am going to drill the upper parts of the tan upper right and left about 2inchs down and 2 inchs in. i got a lot of new stuff galantra will let you get first dibs. I do not like overflow boxs i am going to use a 30 gallon sump refug. just finished my stand i decided to keep it has the frame like how it looks so i painted it will post some pics later on today.
Kudos to you and your firm decision to drill your tank. As Dre stated, overflow boxes are designed for this type of setup. However, IMO they are the second most unreliable piece of equipment in our hobby. The first and MOST unreliable piece of equipment seems to be 'reef safe' heaters. Overflow boxes seem to be a surefire way to guaranty a flood.
Your plan to drill the back of the tank, up high for a 1" overflow and a 3/4" return is a fine design. If you decide you want to overdo it, I would just add a second 1" overflow (you can never have too many overflow's IMO), and if you wanted to really overdo it and increase flow (it would also be uneccessary IMO), you could add another 3/4" return. This adds a lot of flow to your sump doing it this way. I prefer more in-tank flow with VorTech type powerheads. However, all of these recommendations are personal preferences.
ok so i built the frame and decided to paint it and i think i am going to keep it as a frame i like how it looks maybe i will place doors to cover my sump do not know yet. the stand can be complete tooken apart if need be right now.
i do not know if i am gonna build around the frame yet i am thinking that i might make a slide out for the bottom with some wheels and 2 by 4 and the sump is a 40 breeder tank now that i need to make with the glass panels you know where i could get glass panels around here. the stand is 32 inchs tall the tank is 21.
