You need to factor in a number of things, like shipping and possible loses during delivery. Some times it's worth it other times it's not. Also the weather nowadays isn't the best to be shipping corals and unless you're get early shipping, before 11am, the corals are going to be sitting on a cold truck for a good part of the day. And lets not forget the broken boxes and bags, some corals are fine in bags with little water while others, like SPS, don't do as well. You also need to know who you're buying from, as just like Rich posted a lot of the corals are photo shopped and look nothing like what you get. So if you're going to go the ebay route pick your vendor carefully.

Yes you do need to win a number of auctions to make the shipping worth while. Shipping can be a killer unless it's a very expensive or rare coral and you're getting a good deal on it.

You can ask the seller to hold on to the coral until his next auction, that way you have the chance of winning more corals and saving on the shipping. He may ask you to pay for it but it will also give him more sales in the future.

You can also ask the seller if he has more of a certain coral that you didn't win, he may offer it to you at a good price. You can also ask him what he'll take to end an auction early too. This way you'll get the coral and probably at a good price too.
