if you want to use heat shrink use butt splice connector crimp it then heat shrink that works the best, or twist thee wire together and solder the wire then use head shrink that is even better

Use high temp wirenuts and you'll be fine. The heat shrink is a bonus, but not necessary. The black ones have a heat rating of like 350 degrees. Or use the hard yellow buchanan wirenuts. Just a suggestion.

hi temp wire nuts, thermoplastic shell specially designed to withstand the extreme heat build-up commonly found in high-wattage light fixtures and signs. UL listed to 150 C. standed wire nuts are 105 C, if the wire nut is install in the fixture in the lamp area use hi temp if use outside of lamp area use standed wire nut ,in any case if the wire is not splice right then the splice will fail the connection, when wireing fixture socket and the ballast is away from the fixture you should use sj cord the conductors are protected with a rubber cover, must of your failer is from not useing the propere material for the right job,

LMAO. Is this your picture FRY?

Those look like those cheap wirenuts that come with reg lights and such. Like you said before, if you use the right stuff, then there is nothing to worry about. The problem is that most people become fly by electricians overnight and then wonder why things go wrong. This is serious stuff.

Look for Buchanans with the highest temp rating possible for the future. Also if you use black tape, it will simply melt away. So don't do it. Scotch 33+ is a little better if anything.

this is getting too advanced for me. looks like i should have an electrician just do it for me. i'd rather spend a few bucks than risk burning my house down...
