I don't remember what brand I ended up using, but one of the big problems with reef tank plumbing is that bulkheads sold for our use tend to be REALLY cheap. On the advice of a very advanced reef "king" I bought bulkheads that cost me 10X the regular ones and I am very happy that the only problems I have had have been when I have messed around near the plumbing and knocked something a little loose.

I will see if I can find my original receipt. This is probably a worthwhile topic to discuss!

Also, the O-ring/gasket has to be made of the right material or eventually they get hard and after time vibration gets them leaking.

Its a shame that we invest thousands of dollars on a cheap 10 dollar bulkhead.but their isn't anything we can do about it. the more expensive bulkheads require bigger holes, and manufacturers aren't going to drill them that size, and spend the extra money on the bulkheads. here is a bulkhead that I used when I built my tank knowing that one day my tank might leak from the bulkhead. It costs more but at least I might not worry about it leaking, and also the bigger bulkheads have reverse thread for some reason, not sure why???

When I instal a bulkhead I will use some teflon tape on the threads so they don't bind.
The threads are all plastic and there is a lot of surface area that can jam and you think it is tight when it isn't.
