Ha that 2nd list is pretty close to all species of coral. The proposed list of 66 species in the first article is complicated and serious stuff with the potential for far-reaching consequences for the aquarium industry and hobbyists. The sad part is none of it is really directed at the industry at all, but rather a legalistic move to force action on broader, more serious threats like climate change. The aquarium industry will simply be collateral damage.

Would be nice to see the trade names of these corals.

Well that is precisely part of the problem-- trade names are irrelevant in this process. We guess at what species we really have and even the most experienced hobbyists, retailers, wholesalers and exporters are really only guessing when it comes to the species level of something like Acropora.

The truth is the same is true for Fish and Wildlife inspectors who will be tasked with clearing the imports. A very real fear is that because they can't accurately ID things to the species level that will simply opt to shut down all imports of whole Genera ( i.e. No Acropora etc. ).

But to your point directly, and pretty significant portion of the 66 species on the list ( maybe 1/3 of them?) are common hobby corals and some of the most desirable Acropora.

...serious stuff with the potential for far-reaching consequences for the aquarium industry and hobbyists.

OK, so just in case, the next "coral swap" will be at a secret underground location. We can tweet out the time, location and password 24 hrs in advance, on a 'need to know' basis!

Till then, :shhh: "coral what?"!

This holds true especially for you Alfie, as we all know you have every one of these listed corals currently in your Tank..lol. You might want to look out the window to make sure they are not at your door right now!
