I am still debating if my 120g fowlr has enough flow? I moved the PH's. I know people with Bare bottom suggest flow hitting the front glass to bounce back into the LR and get the detritus (sp) up into the filter/sump. I know water changes do the same but I just want to make sure I have correct flow. This has been up for a couple of weeks and no algae lol I added a coral rock my neightbor gave me. I will do a water change in 2 weeks I just want to make sure I have it set up the most efficient way to get the crap into the filter. I moved 2 rocks and saw crap floating so I might need to add another PH to clean off the rocks? What do you think? Thanks

Test it out- While the clown is laready eating and occupied drop a few flakes of food in that are big enough to easily see and see where the flow takes it- it will also tell you where the flow is the strongest when the flake takes off faster when it hits that spot. See if it winds up going towards the filter.

Laminar water flow limits the flow towards a greater part of your tank. Ideally, it is more effective and beneficial to position power heads to push water against the tank glass to disburse the flow to a larger part of your tank, which, ultimately, deters the likelihood of detritus accumulating within your rock work, and limit Cyanobacteria and micro algae from populating your tank.
Diffusion and advection will continue to trap detritus under your rock work, which can't be stopped without placing your rock on top of egg rate and limiting the amount of rock that is allowed to come in contact with your sandbed.
You really can't have too much flow, it is just a question of what type of flow you have...laminar, surge or Turbulent! Surge and turbulent flow provide the best for overall water flow distribution.

I guess I have to play around with my setup. I will position both powerheads to bounce off the front of the glass to bounce back into the rock work to kick up detritus and into the filter hopefully. Should I put the wavemaker on or keep them both (PH's) constant?
What would a surge flow setup be?
