Etss 2500 Skimmer

Hey guys,
I know a guy that wants to sell one and I was thinking about picking it up and using it on our fish system. Only thing is I'm just trying to figure out what kind of pump to use on it, something energy effiecent mainly. Also has anyone had any experience with this skimmer before?

I've got an ETSS 1000 and a couple of larger ETSS knockoffs in the store, the knockoffs are dual downdrafts. I'd have to look to see what is firing them, I can't quite remember off the top of my head, but I can tell you that I love them! I've got the 1000 on our 1000 gallon FOWLR and it kicks butt - they all do, I've got a total of 4 large downdrafts working. I *think* I've got a Mag 24 on that one, but will look at the duals if I can remember tomorrow and let you know. I'm fairly sure they have Dolphins on them, not sure what rating though. We lucked in to a bunch of stuff when we were building our store, at anotother store that was closing down - so we got a ton of goodies, including those skimmers.

Thanks for the reply. We need a decent skimmer, and I wanna go right this time. We don't have any where near 3000 gallons like the rating says but I figure I might as well get the damn thing now and not have to worry about getting something bigger later. The 2500 is a dual downdraft, I'm sure it needs a monster of a pump. I was just hoping to use something fairly energy efficent, since the cost of electric keeps movin up.

Heh I know what you mean. My electric bill is around $700/month.

I'll try to remember to look at what I've got firing those bad boys. I do recall we changed out a pump on one recently - and I believe we have a Gen-X 18,000 on one of the duals we're running. I'll have to look at the other.

Is that it? I was told I'll probably have to use a 1\2 hp pool pump or something crazy!

Well the Gen-X moves about 4800 US gallons per hour. We've got a big external pump on the other system, I *think* it's a Dolphin 5400. I don't know a thing about pools, but those are some big pumps.
