This forum has the potential to change our industry. It is the only place I know of where industry folks speak openly about their businesses and share thoughts, information and what might ordinarily be thought of as "trade secrets". All this is done in public with little motivation other than improving our industry. This forum also is a place where hobbyists can speak directly with those of us in the industry and I believe this has a value to both the industry people and the hobbyists.
However, to keep this forum useful to the wide array of users and potential users we cater to, the tone of conversation must be constructive and respectful.
Therefore, I'm asking everyone, as a favor to me and each other to observe a few simple guidelines.
Treat everyone with respect. This can be difficult if you don't respect the persons ideas or perspective but is necessary to help this forum succeed. Disagree respectfully all you want with what someone says or their ideas but don't disrespect them personally. If you're not sure whether your post is disrespectful, reread it to yourself using the harshest, most sarcastic tone possible and it should be obvious.
Try to move discussion forward, not backwards or sideways. We all like to have input but if your comment doesn't move the discussion along in the topic of the thread title, perhaps it's better in another thread or as a PM.
Realise that everything is open to interpretation. And in the text only world of this forum, everything may be interpreted in the most negative way your words allow. We can't see you laughing as you make the comment so we don't know that you're just kidding.
