Factory Car Alarm Question!

I have a 99 GMC Suburban. Long story short.....Both my key pads are not working to unlock or disarm the truck. I changed both batteries in them as well and nothing happens. Maybe its because I messed with the valet switch to turn off alarm. I tried messing with the valet switch again while pressing the keypad and it did not work. Am I doing something wrong?
