My tank was running at 80 degrees. I have no room or desire for a chiller, so I run a big fan (14.00$ from k-mart) over the top of my sump. I am now at 75 degrees but I am evaporating like 1/2 gallon a day. Does that sound right ? Is anyone else running a fan and losing this much water ?

I was concerned because my brains/lodo were not looking so good. Also, I was getting red slime. I was thinking (hoping) it was due to the heat.....

Make sure your heater is set to something close to your max temp. I run an open top and exhaust fan and in the summer my tank can drop as low as 74 degrees but on hot, humid days it can hit 81. As was mentioned that swing is no good so my heater keeps the tank no lower than 78. Yes I run my heater in the summer :)
