Ok I have my 90gal tank with a 30gal sump under it. I have a ATO that consist of float switches a relay and a pump in a 5 gal bucket. I have added a clam and a birds nest frag with more sps to come later. So I know that my calcium needs are going to increase. I have been looking at building or buying a kalk reactor, but i am undecided on how to feed it with ro/di water.
Could I put a small pump in my top off bucket and use a needle valve and slowly feed fresh water through it? i loose about a gallon a day to evaporation. I know that i can just add the kalk to the top off bucket but I would think that slowly adding the kalk all day would be wore stable than just having it added when the ato kicks on. also does the reactor need to be 1/4" thick tube or would 1/8" be ok?

I used to have mine setup with a Litermeter. I would set up the dosing to the evaporation rate then push fresh RO through the Kalk reactor then to the sump. It would add the kalk slowly all day/night.

What I would do with your setup, is just put kalk into your 5 gallon bucket, and do something to restrict the flow of the pump, so it goes slow when filling up (incase you take out a 1/2 gallon of water or something).

I use a Litermeter III to do what you are describing but any of the dosing pumps would work. Litermeter is pricey........but will last forever.

1/8" might clog to quickly. Anyhow, just be sure whatever feed pump you use you dont add to much kalk at once and screw up the pH.
