im about to set up my new system. i picked up a 34g solana system from russ (saltwater critters). i am not that educated on this system and i know many people on here have this system so id like to hear some advice on it. i been doing some reading online about it, but i always trust your words rather then random comments online. so i have a few questions to ask about this tank...

the stock return pump... good and strong? or worth upgrading or having a back up?

for flow... i will have an mp10 on it. that should be good enough for the whole unit right? i am not hooking it up right away, for now ill be using a hydor 750 evo. the mp10 will be hooked up after i have everything set up so i find the right placement of the unit with how my rock work will be set up.

the skimmer. russ tells me we will talk about that later on. i hear its not the greatest... what is my options for correct fitment for the skimmer that will run efficently?

the auto top off system. how well does this work? seems simple enough... fill both bottles with RO water and let it slowly drip out?

what did you guys end up using for filter media? continue using the stock media or upgraded to what?

lighting. im thinking aqua illumination blue sol. that should be more then enough to pretty much do anything right? would the aqua illumination nano be too small for the unit?

any other tips, advice, or opinions you can give me to higher edcuate myself is greatly appreciated...thanks

I never upgaded the return pump it worked fine for me i had a mp 10 for the extra flow. The skimmer was swapped out for the tunze skimmer 9002 which worker got great. In the middle compartment i put sand live rock and come cheato. With a light that was attach to the back. And i had the nova extrem pro t5 lights. But i would go ai all the way.

for the size tank. I would use a BM nac3.5. I am not 100% on the complete setup but the footprint is pretty small. I had it on my 45 and currently on my 80 before I future upgrade to something like the nac6/7. Works great.
