My Boss, who I convinced to start a saltwater tank cannot seem to find his Kole Tang & Zebra Angel.

The tank has been up & running for 2 yrs. (110gal RR).

Tomato Clown - 2-1/2 inches
Yellow Tang -3-1/2 inches
Blue Damsel -2 inches
Pajama Cardinal not culprit
Goby -2-1/2 inches
Brittle Starfish approx. 12 inches across from arm to arm.

Note: Kole Tang - 4 inches
Zebra Angel 4 inches.
They did not carpet surf & are not the the live rock.

could Brittle Star take them out?

missing fish

Hi! Jim;

He said that his Brittle Star is about 12 inches across from arm to arm.
The body is about the size of a silver dollar.

The tank has been running for 2 yrs. so he would have noticed if a mantis shrimp was in his rock especially since this just started. He also mentioned that 2 emerald crabs, blood shrimp & cleaner shrimp have also vanished.
He did add a 6 inch rock with Xenia from a LFS about 2 months ago.

missing fish

He said that both fish were very healthy & doubts that they just died.
Both fish were at least a year in his tank. Only thing added is the Xenia rock. all parameters are good, no algae, tops off with RO water. has a dosing pump for evaporation top off so no salinity swings.

I've heard of serpent stars hunting fish, but not brittles. Maybe he has a eunice worm hiding in there, it may have only recently grown large enough to take down a sleeping fish. Tell him to take a flashlight with red film and shine it in there at night and see if he catches anything slithering around at night.
