I was just wondering if I could get input from people with really small tanks. I want to get a fluval edge for my dorm room this year because I don't want to get completely out of the hobby when moving to college.

I've never had a tank this small so do people use skimmers and other normal saltwater equipment?

I'm only looking to keep maybe 1 fish, a shrimp, some hermit crabs and snails and zoanthinds with maybe some colorful acans and favias.

Water changes ! Once weekly and either an auto top off or once or ttwice daily with only rodi and youll be fine ! I ran my 20 long with 10g sump skimmerless for over a year but you have to keep up with water changes or things will go down hill quick

I've been running a fluval edge reef for a few months now. This was my first SW tank. Top offs must be done daily as well as testing salinity. I currently have 2 small clowns, some snails and hermits and a golden CBS. I'm going to get a bio cube soon though so the clowns wil have a better home. I have a aquaclear 20 turned into a refugium and a hydor 240 for flow.
The lighting is temp til I get my par 38 fixed. I have a 50 watt via aqua quartz heater and use instant ocean reef cystals. I feed a mix of marine flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp and new spectrum marine pellets every other day and do a 40 percent water change every 4 days. I have 10 pounds of Fiji LR and 10 pounds of sand.

I had an Edge for about a year, but the 12 gal version. I was able to keep all corals doing really well, but modified the lights, got an overflow box and a 10 gal sump with a skimmer. The standard tank ones will not keep even zoas alive IMO. It is a very sharp looking tank. Wish Fluval made one with better lights for saltwater... Here are some pics...
