Foam sitting under tank?

I am curious if it is really needed to have foam under the aquarium to sit on a wooden stand? If so what is the reasoning?
I have my 120gal sitting on a 1/2 pink foam sheet on my stand but when I move it I am curious if I still need it.

Generally people put them under rimless tanks and any tanks without bottom braces. It allows the weight to shift so there isn't any pressure points that can cause a crack. I personally would say keep it.

It is more important on a wooden stand that will dry out and warp, sometimes considerable.

they have a thinner foam, serves same function. i have alot left over, your welcome to it

use to do maintenance setting up, taking down tanks with doing everything in in between for years. never seen foam between a tank and a stand
