i clean my filter sock every other day.usually i take it out hose it down with HOT water soak it for an hour then rinse with HOT water again and soak it for 5 min in ro/di.well today i got lazy and skipped that last step and ran it under cold water and rinsed then put it back on my drain.in 5 minutes my anemone and a couple of corals all closed up.they are starting to come back out but that is how sensitive they are to tap water.there wasnt alot of tap water on that filter sock i squeezed out as much warter as i possibly could....

Where on LI are you? At my summer place in Cutchogue, the tap water is well water....acidic, overly high in manganese, and tastes like crap, makes undrinkable coffee, and ice cubes that smell like garlic. At least I don't have the pesticide traces and nitrates that some others have.....

There wouldn;t be enough tap to cause that reaction from the filter sock. Plus, there shouldn;t be enough of any bad stuff typically found in tap in that much of filter sock wetness to even affect a 30g or similar tank.

Something else caused the reaction. Your missing something. People set up complete SW reef tanks with tap, everything is healthy except massive amounts of algae from all the extra crap that wasn;t filtered out.
