4 nabbed for illegal fishing

FOUR fishermen were arrested Tuesday dawn by Lapu-Lapu City Police off Olango Island, Mactan for illegal fishing.
The suspects were identified as Poly Demira Cabardo, 59; Warlito Cabangca Cabardo, 30, both residents of barangay Sabang, Olango Island. The rest were Cisco Sumalinog Cabardo, 38; and his live-in partner Crisilyn Venculado, 30. Both are residents of Gingutanan, Bien Unido, Bohol.
The elements of Precinct 1 responded to an illegal fishing report at 2 a.m. at the shorelines of barangay Sabang.
The four suspects were caught in the act of using an unidentified poisonous substance in catching fish.
The suspects vehemently denied the allegations of illegal fishing.
Cabardo said that it was their first time to fish in the area and that they were unaware that what they were bringing was a poisonous substance.
The suspects were brought to the police precinct at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday and were turned over to Lapu-Lapu City Police Station for proper disposition.
The four suspects will reportedly be charged for violation of Presidential Decree 534 or illegal fishing with the use of a poisonous substance.
