My dad wants to re-vamp his tank for fish only w/ live rock. What is the best filtration for this type of setup?

He has a canister filter available if that'll be sufficient.

Any suggestions are welcome!

:D A little more information before I answer. How big is the tank, what does he plan on keeping?

A good skimmer rated higher than the tank capacity, ample live rock and brisk flow to keep waste suspended long enough to be skimmed. A fuge with macros for added nutrient export is a plus. Regular water changes too.

Sounds good. I was thinking a skimmer for sure.

Lawdawg - the tank is a 40 gal bow front.

What is the max amount of fish he can have in his tank? I'd say 4.

Oh I forgot...my dad loves tangs. Any suggestions for choosing tangs? He's had yellows and hippos already, and i think he's like to try a new type of tang.

I sure he'll only be able to only keep one tang in there though.

IMO, not even one tang. They really don't belong in anything smaller than a 75...100 even better.
