FOWLR Lights

I was curious if a FOWLR tank gets any benefit from real (coral type) lighting. I am thinking that using coral type lights will only make controlling algae more difficult. Maybe just a plain fresh water light is better for FOWLR? I have the Current USA Orbit Marine LED Saltwater Reef Lighting System on a 24 cube and I also have the Current USA Satellite Freshwater LED Fixture. Just wondering what is better for the tank. Not planning corals for this system.

It will look better aesthetically and you will have better coralline growth. You do make a good point about unwanted algae growth. To help wit that you can cut the hours the lights are on. I don't know much about the light but the light spectrum will also play a role in algae growth.

Since you already have both lights use the one that looks better on your tank. If you start to see problems switch it.

The big thing is that our reef type lighting is usually too bright for most fish, and they would do much better in a tank where the lights weren't as bright.

Live rock doesn't need full light to live. Also fish do not require lights either. BUT be aware...cheap lighting ( I don't mean cheap brands) will contribute to many algae blooms. Just my 2 cents
