Frags Are Cheaper in NY

Was just reading about the Michigan Reefers' spring frag swap. You will be happy to know that frags are one of the few things that are cheaper here in NY.

Just goes to show that MR has a great group of people willing to sell frags cheap in order to share the hobby with others.

What was the comparison ? Or a link would be good too. I thought everyting was cheaper else where with the exception of cali.

I was just reading posts where members were selling to other members. They have some great tanks, but some of the prices they were offering eachother were pretty much lfs prices.

i do find prices in ny cheaper (at least from MR)
i buy alot of my coral in ny and bring them to my 50g in pa

Great goup of people here from my experience. Most are not trying to make a killing on everything they sell.

I think it is because of the friendly environment here on MR, other places and groups charge MUCH more. I feel bad charging for frags (thats why I always try to cut a big frag) but dont have much of a choice, expenses are KILLING me. But a frag that I sell for $20 I have seen going for $100 elsewhere! How many other places have you found where they have a Freebies thread where you actually find stuff that you can use?

But I have always seen a willingness to share and help here on MR. If someone loses everything people give frags away, if someone has a crisis people are always willing to go to the rescue. That is why I have stuck around so long, MR is a place where I can enjoy my hobby with people that love it and enjoy helping others. The giving spirit is contageous.

I'm the same way. I guess I like to help people out. On top of that.. Its so hard to sell things to people that later become friends! :smile:

Same here. I gave away a ton of old equipment and I always give away frags. But with an electric bill close to $300 a month and other big expenses for the tank (Not to mention the cost of my upgrades) I have to try to cover some of my expenses whenever I can. So I figure it cost me a lot of money for my SPS to grow, I am not even selling them for what they actually cost me. ;-)
