I just got a call that my frozen fish food was left out overnight and
thawed out (I'm out of town) It was a blend I made of mysis, clams, cyclopeeze, oysters, and plankton.

what's the chance it's not good anymore? should it be tossed?
I just made enough for the next few months :(

Just freeze it back up J. You know not all food in the ocean is fresh either. It was only a day so in my opinion it should still be good!

I think the issue with thawing and re-freezing food is that comercial foods are snap frozen which keeps the cells of the animal intact. when you thaw and refreeze commercial food like mysis, the ice crystals that form rupture the cell walls of the shrimp and diminish its nutritional value. I'm not too sure about any of this though and i'm not sure if it would be a problem for home prepared food as it has been frozen in a regular freezer in the first place.

anytime i forget to put frozen food back in the freezer i throw it out.i dont like to keep food that has been room temp overnight.the smell from fresh thawed food compared to overnight food is a strong indicator of wether its good or not.i would of trashed it.jmo
