Value is relative - this clam has been in captivity and likely not bought at this size - most reefkeepers arent able to keep a clam for the length of time it takes to grow it that big and NO importer will ever bring one into the country this size.

That being said, I would believe the "value" as defined as "fair market value" is more than the asking price here.

Holy Crap!! Are we still discussing the price being asked for this gigas? Hey man, I do not care if you pay $1,000.00 for it. That's your business. But for those MR reefers who would like something like that but don't want to pay the asking price, regardless of its "true" value, I just want you to know you may be able to find a similar gigas cheaper. I feel it my responsibility to let you know that. BTW, Jim and Russ, I like my new clam and the white round holder came right off. :backtotop :givebeer: :dead:

Sorry for the delay. The clam has been in my tank for approx 9-10 yrs under 14K 250w Hamilton MH. I would like to keep it, but is it has overgrown my 125G tank.

But as a MR member, I would hope that someone would let me know if someone was advertising something that may be considered overpriced. Are we not here to protect/help each other? There is no problem here. I thought I was sell the Gigas Clam at a reasonable price. I have see Gigas Clam this size(17") go for alot more at LFS than my asking price. This clam has been in my tank for 9-10 yrs and hatred to let it go, but it has overgrown my 125g reef tank. I raised it from a pup.

If you can't sell it, perhaps you would consider donating it to our public reef displays here at Pratt? I'm planning a 150g. dedicated primarily to my clam collection and this would be a very nice addition. Lots of frags too if you are interested. Randy

I was considering donating to the Atlantis's Aquarium in Riverhead if I do not sell it. I will keep you in mind.

That would be a good choice too. Joe will take good care of it. Coincidentally, most of the larger clams in my system, come through him.

I am sorry but I do not want to start another debate about feeding your tank or not. My tank had done very well with my current method of reef keeping.
