Hi ;-)
From your description it seems that above all you have a flow problem in your refugium which is causing detritus to accumulate, so your refugium is turning into a mudflat which is one of the main causes for refugiums to fail. So before putting any snails or detritivore animals such as fire worms, etc... in your refugium, you should analyse it to find the cause of that detritus accumulation, solve it first, you can still put the snails but I would not recommend nassarius, I recommend Stomatella.
Also and to help you further to better understand the biological dynamics and biological value added of a refugium and DSB, please read these articles by Dr. Ronald L. Shimek, a specialist on marine invertebrates and DSB, etc...

the fuge is bare bottom, just chaeto and liverock. it is a 50g fuge and i have a koralia 4, but it seems that the detrius just gets kicked up and traped in the cheato. i have a filter sock on the water being pumped into the fuge, and i regularly try to shake the detrius of the cheato but it gets filled with crap in days.

Hi
For that to happen its because the detritus are to many as even with the filter sock they end up in the refugium and/or they are being pumped into the refugium. Decanter chambers could be a solution, as water would enter them first, and detritus would be trapped/decanted there before the water is pumped into the refugium. Well we need photographs to help you further.

Cheers
Pedro Nuno ;-)
