Maybe dustin can share his tranship contacts with us. Price is important at least for us with plants.. there are 3 large full line stores on this road, and people aren't going to pay xtra for plants like they will for quality sw fish (at least that's been my experience here, other locales may vary). Sure works that way with "bread N butter" fish like tetras and goldfish... only tetras we sell any quantity of are cardinals & rummynose cuz petco can't keep em alive.

Its been a few years. I forget where we transhipped from. Most of our plants came from a local grower, Mcdonalds plants, something like that.

thats basically our plan vitz  I've had plenty of customers over the years come in and beg us to do these tanks, because they like what they saw in the SW area, and there wasn't anyone in the area selling the higher end FW animals and equipment. Everybody and their brother does FW, but mostly cichlid and the standard 1979 FW nightmare (well they got those lazer lights now too  ) and you are right most people have no idea how gorgeous these tanks can be, so we hope this little experiment in the new store will add to the profits.

It's actually been rather startling to see how closely planted aquaria parallels with reef aquaria. Two approaches high-tech and low tech, with the edge being to low tech (natural) approach etc.

Quick check of Red Sea's website shows no Dupla or Azoo either, but I did hear something about them recently - however Dupla's website is currently not working.

plants are to iron the way corals are to calcium

florida aquatic gardens is the best us based place around, methinks-but it may be hard to deal with them-their demand usually outstrips their supply

we also bring in plants direct from the far east-amazing cryots come from there, also marsilea, alteranthera, and some other beautiful shtuff

i'd say we now have the best plant selection/presentation in joisey

i'll find out and pm you

btw- i just saw our numbers-the f/w plant dept here is the most profitable in the store, on an expenditure vs income basis, and the volume of our plant traffic is growing weekly

a few days ago-someone bought just over $100 worth of plants at one shot-he's a discus head w/a 180

the market and clientele are definitely there

Carib Sea's Plant substrate.

Other than the live bacteria nonsense - which is disappointing - anyone use it as a base for plants???

No, but SeaChems Flourite works pretty well for us. Put it in a display tank and they'll usually give it to you.
