I got it for my 90G few days ago, it's a G3 skimmer with the recirulating Mod. I use the Maxi-jet 1200 to feed the skimmer.

My question is why the water level keep changing itself..?!

1st & 2nd day, I adjusted the gate valve to the level that I wanted and the water stayed there. There was water coming out from the outlet but today.

3rd - today, The water level is so low, it's lower than the feeding hole. I try to adjust it by using the gate valve, but it didn't help. I didn't see any water coming out from the water outlet too...why the water is not going up? Is it because the uniseal is leaking?

I can see both of the uniseal are leaking, I tried to push them all the way in there but it's still leaking.. :(

Well I did some research on that skimmer and shouldn't it come with Sedra 5000 pump rated at 500 gph? What I would do is change the maxi-jet. I think that it is not pushing enough water into the skimmer because maxijet 1200 is rated at 295 gph

NYC, the uniseals must be tight - you have to make sure the pump fittings seal in there real good, once you get that, you won't have level problems - like I mentioned before, soak the seals in warm water before pressuring the fittings into it. Doing this correctly too me a few days as well, but you'l get it.

ASM recomends you run only 150 to 200 GPH through the skimmer. Running more then that will kill your contact time and cause it to not skim well. I've also read on many forums that people have gotten GREAT results pushing only 100 GPH through the skimmer.

(Skimmers have a "sweet spot", more is not better, it's less)

Make sure that the return (outlet) pipe is up as high as it will go.

Yup..the maxjet is only feeding the skimmer. Jim, I did it 2 times already, the uniseal fit in there but there is alittle leaking tho. But I like this Skimmer, the 1st 2 days it did a great job..haha

Mine leaks a bit from the seals as well but not gallons worth. ASM says that some water will leak (thus they recomend sump only usage.) Is your outlet pipe set to as high as it can go? The water level will stay a few inches higher then the height of your outlet pipe. If you have it set real low your water level will also be real low.

Yeah that's no good. If all your water is leaking from the joint of the sand pipe and the pvc you've got no ability to adjust your skimmer. Sounds like you're missing a seal. The water should come out from the top of the PVC pipe and flow through the sponge.

You slide the pvc up or down to get the water to the desired height.
