Gatevalve for EuroReef RS-100

Is a gatevalve really worth the upgrade?
What kind of results can I expect from it it in terms of control?
My skimmer is un-mod and skims alot of nasty smelling crap without any special mods.

I also interested if I should mod my rs-135. Everyone says that you get better skimmate that way.

A gate valve will give you greater control over the consistency (wet vs. dry) of the skimmate.

If you are happy with your skimmate, then why bother? I just find it alot easier than trying to adjust that riser pipe which is a PIA.

If you're getting good skim, using the riser pipe, I wouldn't both putting on the gate value. If you're not get skim, because your skimmer is to deep or low in the water, then a gate value will correct those problems.

Like Pedro said, it's much easier to adjust a gate value than the riser pipe.

After more reading I realize that I don't really need a gate valve since I have one of the newer ER skimmers that don't require you to move the pipe up and down, mine moves by turning the riser pipe.

crox you just need a new skimmer for what you're trying to do. Modding that one won't cut it. It's good on your tank for softies or lps but if you want to go sps it won't do.
