I've decided after 2+ years to pack it in. I'm in Stamford CT and have a 75 gal reef tank with some basic corals and 15 or so fish. Nothing fancy. Pics should be viewable in Photo Gallery.

This site has always been a great source of aid. I haven't been around much lately but I have always appreciated the help, advice and comraderie offered by this group. No matter how opinionated.

So one last time I'll be asking for help. I'd appreciate people's thoughts/tips/experience on how best to organize selling and breaking down my tank.

I guess equipment gets sold last? Preceded by sand (if anybody wants it) and rock....bought some rock this past summer from a member of this site that turned out to have aiptasia. But what about fish or crabs that live deep down below?

I have no knowledge of fragging so I figure its more a sale of rock with whatever coral is attached.

I'll post a specific list of items in the next few days but just want to think it through at first. With the benefit of whatever pearls of wisdom the group has to offer.

When I broke down my 40 long I offered a package deal for:

1. All of the live rock
2. All of the fish & inverts
3. All of the loose coral & frags
4. All of the tank equipment

Everything was gone in 3 days.

Chase I would list corals first because they will be easy yo get out of the tank. I would then list the live rock, inverts and fish. The ish and inverts will be tough to catch with the rock in the tank so you will probably need to get the rock out of the tank first to catch the fish. Last sell the equipment.

If you get an offer for the whole setup entertain that first however entire setups are rarely sold here.

I have a friend that might be getting INTO the hobby, needs a tank/stand/equipment and such...if the price is right he might pick everything up except the livestock.

The suggestions above for the order of selling things is spot on and I agree with Chief that entire 'packages' usually don't sell well here, but it can't hurt to post a price for a package deal.
The biggest challenge is going to be getting people who want to buy things to actually show up when promised (especially since you live in CT), or at least keep in touch if plans must be changed.
Folks who have been most successful have required payment up front or a deposit to hold the item/s and then only for a limited time before the deposit is lost.
Also a good idea to ask folks to ONLY respond on the thread, it really helps to minimize confusion on who wants what.

And be sure to post pics!

Best of luck with your sale & good luck in the future :)
