Getting rid of red algae

i have this crazy algae bloom ever since a piece of algae scraped off my filter and fell into the tank. It's spreading like crazy. Is there anything i can do to eliminate this?

It kind of sounds like Cyno to me. Is it on your sandbed also and does it easily brush off? pics would definitely be helpful

yes its all over the sand bed. i cant find my charger for my camera but its like a dark burgundy and its all over the rocks and it does brush off easily.

Use the 'Search' box just below the blue bar on the home page and you'll get many pages of results if you type in 'cyano'. Lots of good threads in there on how to get rid of this ..and pics too so you can compare what you have to them.
