GFCI with a battery backup

Last night while hoooking up a UPS into a GFCI wall outlet I stepped back for a moment cause something just didint seem right. How many people are running gfci adapters from their UPS in addition to one from the wall? It seems like plugging directly into a UPS without a GFCI in place is the same as plugging a powerhead directly into a standard wall outlet. ie no protection is in place.

You are correct. UPS will provide no protection if it is plugged into a GFCI. You would need to put the GFCI in between the UPS and items you plugged into it.

What if you have an aquacontroller or lighthouse controller? where would the gfci go?

You can put the GFCI between the DC-8 and the outlet it is plugged into (or plug it in a GFCI outlet).
