Wondering approximately how much it would cost to do granite on top of my fish tank stand? [obviously the price can vary, looking to go on the cheap side]

Stand is 36X18

Is there an alternative to granite? i read something about possibly quarts?

where should i go to buy this? should i avoid your typical places like homedepot or lowes.

The top of my stand is skinned so it will sit flat ontop but the tanks i am placing ontop will be smaller than the diameter of the stand so i thought i would look nice and also raise the tanks a little higher.

I know nothing about this so if anyone can help me i appreciate it! suggestions!

The price really depends on what you choose. A granite top like that will run you 200-500$ depending on what you like and any polishing charges, not too cheap. Check out the greenpoint area if your interested there is a bunch of stone places around and might have some fall off from a slab they can give you at a good price.

As far as quartz, less maintenance than granite and typically cheaper.

IMO, I woldn't put the tank on a piece of stone. For one, you want to put a buffer between the tank and whatever its sitting on meaning you want to inset the tank into the surface of whatever your placing it on to hide that foam + the black tank framing if you have that. Also, you would be surprised how much heat the stone absorbs. I can see your tank having issues during the winter trying to keep the tank at a stable temp. If you ever went into a marble warehouse in the dead heat of summer you know what i'm talking about.

I was thinking about putting a counter top when I built my stand for my shallow I saw pieces that were pretty nice for like 50 bucks. My problem was that my tank is 48x24 and the counter tops were just shy of that like 23 or so, so it would have been too short and defeated the whole purpose of having a decorative top.
This was at home depot by the way

That's EXACTLY why you found the granite slab for $50. A typical base cabinet is 24" front to back. A 23" piece is pretty much worthless for most kitchens. It's a 'throwaway' piece.
