if it's a glass tank then i would think a glass brace is the best option. if it's an acrylic tank then an acrylic brace is best.

may i ask, why didn't it have a brace?

Are you bracing a glass tank w/ acrylic, I don't think weldon will work for glass and acrylic....?

and for those answering, what type of silicone would hold acrylic to glass...

Go to a glass guy. Have him measure it. Have him cut it. Put it in with aquarium silicone and bar clamps. GLASS. Trying to go on the cheap with this will lead you to a wet floor and dead animals. BTW, empty the tank at least halfway before it is measured. It will make a tremendous difference. Glass isn't forgiving if it bends.

silicone will not make a strong bond to acrylic. Glass and silicone must be used, it doesn't matter if it is a center brace or a euro brace.

Look at a quality built overflow on a glass tank. Even with close to equal amounts of water one each side of the overflow, any reputable company which wishes to maintain it's good name, builds the overflow out of glass around 3 inches short and than places the acrylic over it. Acrylic comes in colors. It is far easier to put teeth on the top which make our overflows work without becomming fish traps. In most cases, they cover the glass with acrylic. Now, you will also see some use the black plastic overflows which are rounded into a semicircle. These are not acrylic overflows. They are rough plastic. They rely on the roughness to get a little better hold of silicone and also the semi circular design to wedge them into the area they are intended to stay. Nothing bonds to acrylic well. Just like PVC. Both of them rely on a solvent that actually melts them and joins them together when they dry. It's called "WELDON" because of that.
