Hi all,
I'm new to the hobby and currently experiencing a data overload with the wealth of information in this site.

I am considering a few in sump skimmers for my set up but finding it difficult to choose what is best for my set up.

Aqua C Remora - to hang on the sump to conserve some space.
Aqua C Urchin
ASM G-1
Tunze DOC Protein Skimmer 9005

Also, has anyone used the following skimmer on their set up? (read through the skimmer threads and did search but found limited to no information on it)

ASM Mini-G Protein Skimmer

Please note that I am still buying all of my supplies and just knocking out the "bigger" items out of the way.

As of the time of this post, I have the following items:
  • 30g Long tank - 36"L X 12"W X 16"H
  • Stands with approx. - 34"L X 11"W X 26"H in space
  • Tek-3 6 bulb T-5 lighting (bought from another MR member for at a great price:rolleyes:)
** I will build/buy the sump based on the skimmer I choose.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all for your help.

i have a remora and a remora pro. for the money thats the best one, talked to other's with the asm g1 they werent that happy, the 9005 would be real over kill for that size, i would go with the remora or the urchin

I use a Mini G skimmer on my nano 29g,drilled mixed reef,& Used a G-3 on my old tank.

I just like the simplicity ,& the performance of the the G series skimmers.

Aqua C also make a Remora Nano, which is good for tanks up to 25gal.

The Remora is good for tanks 20-75gal and the Remora Pro is good for tanks 40-120gal.

A lot depends on how heavily stocked your tank is and also upgrading to the larger pump does greatly improve the skimmer performance.

Aqua C only makes 2 Remora series skimmers The regular is only good upto 30 gallons and the pro is good up to 75 gallons. Aqua C also has the urchin line which is an in sump skimmer.

think someone forgot about the remora nano :D all the remoras are basically the same, just rated for different size tanks.

i would go with the G-series skimmer or the octopus skimmers

i had been using remora in my setup for 3 years now. you won't regret it. if you have a sump then go for the urchin, i believe someone here is selling one

well..there are 3 different types of skimmer for AquaC: remora, urchin, and EV series..

The Remora are the way to go if you plan on not going with a sump, you can also pick up a used one pretty cheap. You also want to upgrade to the larger pump, depending on the model you get. If you planning on having a sump then you should look at the ASM or Aqua C Urchin, as they're the cheapest.

Look at the Protein skimmer thread here on MR, that will give you an idea of what skimmer to get.

Thanks everyone for taking your time to help me choose. I think I will go for the AquaC Urchin, considering the space limitation on my set up.

I don't foresee myself upgrading to bigger tank anytime soon (at 2 maybe 3 years) and the Urchin should be able do an adequate job with the bioload I'm looking to put in the tank.

Thanks again for your input.
